Community's First Hardware Store to Open in San Tan Valley

San Tan Valley residents have been waiting for a hardware store to build in their community since before San Tan Valley even got its name.

Around 2006, the community had been notified that Home Depot would be building at the corner of Hunt Hwy and Gary Road, anchoring that corner. When the economy took a downturn, Home Depot stopped building nationwide, including in San Tan Valley. For the last 13 years, residents have wondered if Home Depot would ever build on the lot that they still own in San Tan Valley. While portions of that lot have been listed for sale, Home Depot has not moved forward.

The thought of a hardware store seemed lost until San Tan Valley residents received exciting news when SanTanValley.com notified them October 1st, that a hardware store was in fact coming to San Tan Valley and was expected to open next month. While it isn't Home Depot, it is an Ace Hardware store and the community is beyond excited, as seen by the hundreds and hundreds of comments shared on SanTanValley.com's facebook page.

While Ace Hardware is a national brand, their stores are all independently owned. The store opening in San Tan Valley will be the 4th store for the Kabat Family, all of which are located in Arizona.

The Kabat family got their start in the hardware business in 1977 in St. Helen, MI. Wanting a change in location, Brian Kabat, along with his parents, purchased their first Arizona Ace Hardware in Kearny, AZ in October 2004. Together with Brian’s parents, they opened Kabat’s Frontier Ace Hardware in Apache Junction in 2006. Then in 2016, they purchased Handy Fred’s True Value in East Mesa which they converted into Kabat’s Handy Ace Hardware. In 2017, Crismon Ace Hardware opened in Southeast Mesa, adding store # 3 to the Kabat Family repertoire. The Kabat's have a goal to become vital parts of their local communities and they work hard to reach that goal.

Their vision includes growth not only for the business but growth and advancement for their team and community. They consider their team to be a big part of their family. They embrace strong values and a sense of integrity that make a successful combination for family, guests and community. They also believe in offering their guests the friendliest, most knowledgeable and convenient hardware stores in the area.

Both Brian and Ashley participate in active roles of the daily operations for each store. Together with their two children they love travel and exploring. Additionally, Ashley is very involved not only with the business but also with their children’s school activities and events. While at home, they enjoy the company of a goat, chickens, dogs, and a couple horses. Ashley is the true horse lover and has done a bit of roping as well. Both Brian and Ashley truly love their involvement with fundraising efforts for the Phoenix Children’s Hospital and other area organizations. One of Brian’s many mottos is

“Helping you is the most important thing I have to do today.”

When the opportunity to open a new store in San Tan Valley became available, the Kabat’s made the commitment and stepped in full speed ahead. The new store will be located in the previous Pet Club location on the southeast corner of Ironwood and Ocotillo.

“We hope to fill a need in the growing area for a convenient, well stocked, locally owned store with a huge variety of merchandise for home and business.”

The Kabat's are currently hiring for the new location and encourage anyone to apply online at kabatsace.com
